One Day At A Time

One Day At A Time

In my work place, there is a big chalkboard hanging on the hallway
wall just across from the Program Office. It has always shown the
important messages from the Program Management. For the past
couple of months, until last week, the message was “ xx days before
the Licensing Survey” and “ Together, we can do it”. The "xx" days
was updated every day. It was a clear message to employees of all
disciplines. Everybody was in high gear last week. Then the survey
was finally over.

This morning, while I was picking up some mails from the Program
Office, I noticed the message was changed to “One day at a time”,
which was written at the center of the board, and nothing else added.
Obviously, we have all returned back to status of "business as usual".
We are now just taking it one day at a time and not getting caught up
with the survey anymore.

According to the English dictionaries, “one day at a time” means we
take each day as it comes, take it one day at a time to deal with
something as it happens and not worry about the future. We live by
it and it makes life easier. By living our live one day at a time, we live
all the days of our life. We live a healthy life.

I find this philosophical wisdom to be very much in agreement with
the ancient Chinese poets:

唐‧羅隱‧自遣

(得即高歌失即休,多愁多恨亦悠悠;)

"今朝有酒今朝醉,明日愁來明日愁。"

or

唐 ‧杜秋娘 ‧ 金縷衣

(勸君莫惜金縷衣,勸君惜取少年時。)

"花開堪折直須折,莫待無花空折枝。"
