macchina

Donner Lake

(Lake Tahoe)

Memorial Point, Lake Tahoe

Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe

Inspirational Point, Lake Tahoe

問余何意棲碧山? 笑而不答自心閑;

I'll Take a Train Ride

From "Google Images"

In an early Autumn Sunday morning, JWW, a college classmate of mine, called me. Among many things we chatted about, he suggested a "Trans-Siberian Train Tour (海參威 - 莫斯科) " for our future class reunion trip.

In the afternoon on the very same day, I received an e-mail from another classmate, DJL. In his e-mail, he attached a poem he had written, entitled " I'll Take a Train Ride".

As a matter of fact, DJL was absolutely not aware of JWW's call and his suggestion of "Trans-Siberian Train Tour".

It was totally a coincidence!  Perhaps it was because of the mellow autumn mood.

"I'll Take a Train Ride"         ~ DJL~

I'll take a train ride, many years in the future,
From Beijing: a hub, fifty million, of adventure.
At noon, I'll see the Dayan Buddha Tower;
Passing great Mongolian plain in sunset hour.

In blue sky, golden rays shine the tall grass in flame,
And a breez uncovers the cattle and the lamb.
Am I on the path of exodus of the Great Huns?
At night the train passes the Baikal and its river runs.

Then the train sees Moscow on horizon,
And the Red Square and Kremlin's skyline.
Heading south, I'll see Rhine River cruising boats,
And in a while, the Arch Triumph still gloats.

In London's Chinatown, I'll order a Peiking duck.
Or wake up from a dream of good luck.

Again, 葉子不知量力, 嘗試翻譯 this "dream" poem by DJL:

這五仟萬人,奇遇偶合的軸心;

草原上的高杆草, 被金色的陽光照著火紅;

再往南,我欣賞萊茵河畔風光;

葉子不知量力, 嘗試翻譯同學 DJL 一首 sentimental English poem, "A Stroll by the Lake".

Walden Pond
(From "Google Images")

來到這長椅,小坐稍懈;

松鼠在草地追逐;

然而,那端吹起陣風;

最美好的已成回憶;

PS

 A Stroll by the Lake

I took my dog for a stroll by the lake.
Upon a bench, I took a break.
Printed on the water, were the blue sky
And the trees with colorful dye.

The squirrels ran on the grass,
By a garden with few last roses.
I came up to a slope ascent,
Some walked by; a morning well spent.

It all seemed happy, and the sun shined.
But from the other end it blew a gust of wind,
Ripped the water and beautiful leaves,
Like fine things taken away by thieves.

Why is present so transient? The best became
Memory, and what to come will not be the same?

The best became memory, and ............ ?

The other day, while I was enjoying "Another Beautiful Early Autumn Day" with my family at Tomales Bay in the Point Reyes National Seashore, Northern California, DJL, one of my NTUMC1968 classmates, took his dog for a stroll by the lake at Baltimore in the East Coast.

After he came home, he wrote a sentimental poem entitled, "A Stroll by the Lake". He said, "Autumn is beautiful, but also sentimental."

DJL is a retired professor from a renowned university school of medicine. He has often shared with a "small circle" of close friends poems he has written in both English and Chinese. He also loves reading and exploring the form and meanings of poems written by famous poets, such as William Yeats, Robert Frost, 李白 ........ etc.

It is always a pleasure to read his e-mails and writings he has sent to his "small circle" friends, me included.

Another Beautiful Early Autumn Day

Today, the first Sunday of October, we, the entire family of three generations, took a day trip up to Tomales Bay in the Point Reyes National Seashore.

This is the second time for us to do so this year, yet the first time for our older daughter’s family, who had just moved to the Bay Area from the East Coast.

We again came to "Heart’s Desire Beach" for a picnic, where our grandchildren could also enjoy the water.

 And at the same time, I refreshed my recent memory by strolling through the nearby "Johnstone" and "Indian Nature" Trails along the coastline. ( "Besides Oysters", another Yehtze's Journal, posted on Sunday, July 12, 2015)

(By D.L. Wei    Nov. 2011)
