Spring Flowers Autumn Moon

(Originally posted in NTUMC68 class website Octpber 8, 2008)

春花秋月何時了,往事知多少。
小樓昨夜又東風,
故國不堪回首月明中。

雕欄玉砌應猶在,只是朱顏改。
問君能有幾多愁,
恰似一江春水向東流。

Spring Flower Autumn Moon.

“tsun hua chiou yueh ho shi liau? wong shi chi duo shau ?” Spring flowers autumn moon, when are they going to end? How many remote things do you remember?

It won’t end. There will be still spring flowers and autumn moon next year, and year after, and endlessly. We will only continue to build things for ourselves to remember later on. I like autumn. It is the best season of the year. The sky is clear and “high”, and the air is cool. The tree leaves change their color, some of them with brilliant bright color before they fall. As usual, the maple trees around our house are about to start turning red, the color of affection and warmth. The autumn moon is bright and looks much bigger. When there was a full autumn moon, I would often be wandering around my backyard with a cup of grape wine in my hand, and share the same thought the poet, Su Dong-Po, had expressed in his famous poem during the mid autumn. I also appreciate his thought of having his folks share the same moon thousands miles away.

Although our folks back in Taiwan can not share the moon with us exactly at the same time, it is the same round and bright moon after all.
