"Let it rain" has long been the wishes of the folks here in the valley.

Rain and high-elevation snows let up over California tonight, after dumping up to 10 inches of rain on parts of the region.

The welcome rain and snow will not, however, be enough to make a significant dent in the state's multi-year drought.

In fact, I don’t mind the rain at all.

I love rain. I have always found it enjoyable to watch the rain (觀雨), especially in a foggy day, and listen to the rain (聽雨), at night time in particular.

觀雨聽雨 使人心靜

Night rain, "夜雨", was always one of the popular poetry themes for the ancient Chinese poets.

In his poem "夜雨", 陸游 wrote:

吾詩滿箧笥，最多夜雨篇。
四時雨皆佳，莫若初寒天。

And

是時聞夜雨，如絲竹管弦。

白居易 had noticed:

隔窗知夜雨，芭蕉先有聲。

Even 乾隆 emperor had a "夜雨" poem:

夜雨打船窗，恰值清夢醒。
入耳適宜聽，披衾不覽冷。

While I was about to finish this post, I again noted "空階雨聲夜轉急", and heard the
"不斷隆隆溪水聲" coming from the Redwood Creek behind our house.
