It has been said that if a tree is like a poem, the roots are the ideas, the trunk is what it wants to communicate, the branches are the sentences, leaves are the spoken words and fruits the act of communication.
When looking at a tree, especially the bonsai or 盆栽, I pay most of the attention to its trunk and roots. From there, not only I see their beauty and individuality, but also its ideas originated by the roots and what it wants to communicate through the trunk.
The following photos show the beautiful trunk and root system of the several 盆栽s, which I have potted and attended over the years. Some of them have been cared for over 20 years.
