Taking Walks

Richard Clayderman-Serenade(Franz Schubert)

Taking walks / Solvitur ambulando

It has been some time since we started our daily routine by taking
evening walks around the neighborhood blocks after dinner during
the week, and also walk/light hiking in the nearby hill park over the
weekend.

Among the numerous “health benefits” of taking walks, we feel our
thoughts come clear while we walk. It has been said that all true
great thoughts are conceived by walking. "Solvitur ambulando" is a
Latin term, which means " It is solved by walking". We often make
good decisions or plans for our daily life during the walks, for
example, something we would like to buy, places we would like to
visit, or certain things we would like to do.

While taking walks, we also enjoyed nature. The beautiful front yard
gardens of some neighbors’ houses have kept us coming back. The
unfinished trails on the hills remind us which trail we are going to
stroll through on our next trip. We always feel refreshed and relaxed
upon returning from a walk.

All walking is discovery. John Muir, the American Naturalist, had
once said:

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.”

  1. It sounds incongruous but walking brings me courage. I think about difficult things when I walk around the lake where I live and I usually come up with a decision by the time I arrive home.....tl
