紅木樹下的搖椅

In one of his famous paintings "松下聽泉", 文徵明, a  famous painter in the Ming Dynasty, depicted a scholar, dwarfed by the immense mountain, sat on a river bank in the valley leisurely viewing the waterfall and listening to the wind in the pines.

置身如在重巖底, 耳聽松風眼看泉。

In our backyard, we have a total of seven soaring coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) on the hillside. Besides the elegance, majesty and beauty, they also provide a wealth of shade, sooth, inspire us to relax and help us connect to nature. 

We have installed a "double seat cushion swing" under the trees.  Although we do not have the benefit of "耳聽松風" or "眼看泉", we, over the years, however do enjoy sitting on that swing seat while watching flying birds and listening to them singing, not to mention "嶺上多白雲" that "只可自怡悅".

讀書之樂樂何如？好鳥枝頭亦朋友. Reading under the trees has also been a pleasant and tranquil pastime. However, I would occasionally fall asleep while I was reading.

And, every so often, I simply sat there quietly doing nothing in particular, and that has been what I did and liked most. Sometimes I sit and think, and sometimes I just sit.

"紅木樹下的搖椅" in our backyard is rather alluring.
