楓葉紅了

It has been getting cooler. Yesterday morning, the temperature in the Valley had dropped to the mid 40s F. Yeh Tze (葉子) got out of the house and walked into his backyard.

He noticed the maple tree leaves had started turning red and were falling off the tree. He said to his wife: "楓葉又紅了". She did not seem to want to endorse what he had said. She simply replied to him by saying: "Nothing important is holding your attention, ....... ."

In fact, Yeh Tze knew well what she was going to say.


She thought, while most of his NTUMC1968 classmates were either continuing their busy career and/or writing biographies that include their lifelong achievements, the thing that mattered to Yeh Tze was  "楓葉又紅了".

To Yeh Tze, there is more meaning behind that simple phrase: "楓葉又紅了". There is more to it than that.

Lao Tzu (老子), the ancient Chinese philosopher, had said:

"人法地，地法天，天法道，道法自然。"

"Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like."

That is what was really holding Yeh Tze's attention when he noticed "楓葉又紅了".
