Woman With Talent

WDL is one of my wife’s best friends. They were in the same class

during their high school years. They played, and studied hard as

well, together after school. They have kept in touch and maintained

good friendship since.

She is a talented woman. After her undergraduate work at 台大, she

took her postgraduate studies in Japan and the United States, and

then pursued her teaching carrier in biology at 陽明 Medical School.

She retired a few years ago, but found her "第二春" in ”押花藝術"

and continued to enjoy her talented retirement living.

Late autumn last year, while we were having our hometown visit in

Taipei, she spent a few days working on her another “押花“ project

that she did just for us as a gift (as shown above). We also had the

opportunity to see her 作品 awarded by the "中華民國拈花惹草押花

藝術協會" in Taipei “花博館“ as well as many of her artworks in her

home. We were amazed by her talent and delicate artistic skills.

Her undergraduate major was “農藝 “, that led her to appreciate and

enjoy nature’s beauty.

Stop and Smell the Roses

A few years ago, one of my wife's best friends, WDL, whom she had

known since her youth, came from Taiwan and visited us in the

Valley. It was spring time. We took her to see the Bay Area. While

strolling in the Golden Gate Park, we came to the Rose Garden,

where she stopped and started to smell the roses one by one. As she

did this, she had a pleasant smile on her face. Upon seeing this

beautiful action, my wife and I both realized the genius of her

encounter with nature. It allowed her to take time, slow down and

appreciate the beauty and scents of nature, which is a wonderful and

mindful experience that most of us do not take the time to do in our

busy lives. Inspired by her, we did the same thing and it turned out

to be an extremely unique experience for us!

It was a helpful reminder from her that we needed to slow down,

relax, and experience the beauty and essence of nature.
