Those Were The Days
The year 1968 was said to be the year that rocked the world,
culturally and politically. It was also the year we graduated from
NTUMC in Taipei after spending seven years in the school.
We together studied in the classroom and library. We did science
experiments and various projects in the laboratories. We were
young and had a big dream. We also learned how to dance, told
jokes and laughed, took trips, watched movies, and ................... .
Those were the days and we thought they would never end.
In 1968, the final year of school, we completed a one-year internship
program and became doctors. We then said goodbye to each other.
Those were the days, the good old days !

ReplyDelete"Those Were the Days" a song is credited to Gene Raskin, who put English lyrics to the Russian gypsy song "Dorogoi dlinnoyu" ("Äîðîãîé äëèííîþ", lit. "By the long road"), written by Boris Fomin (1900-1948) with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii. It deals with reminiscence upon youth and romantic idealism.
The first known recording of the song was by Alexander Vertinsky in the 1920s. The song is best remembered for Mary Hopkin's 1968 recording, which was a top-ten hit in both the U.S. and the U.K.
I was graduating from high school in Hongkong in 1974. This song was still enormously popular among the young folks there. It was in every folk concert ,dance parties, and played in radio. Though I could harly make out too many words of the lyrics.....those were the days.....never loose...lalalala, it was part of my youth, growing up.....tl
