Lately, we have been babysitting our one year old granddaughter,
the first baby of our younger daughter. As both of her parents
are working, her mom brings her to our house on Sunday evening
and we take her back on Tuesday evening. It is a half hour drive
each way on the country roads lined with rolling hills.
After some thirty years, our house is again filled with baby stuff.
They however are somewhat different from those of her mother’s
generation. The toys are mostly “battery-operated”, not the kind
of “wind-up” stuff. Most importantly, the playpen, the stroller and
the high chair are much more appealing and comfortable than those
her mom used to have.
We have fun with our grandbaby. Babysitting her makes us feel
young and gives us boundless joy. Her every cute smile and action
remind us of her mother when she was a baby. One moment we are
just like a parent. The next we are all-wise and prehistoric.
She loves to be sitting on my lap and watching the baby music videos
on the computer screen. She often responds with a happy smile and
tiny body movements. This music video “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
is one of her favorites.
